Dissh Sale on Sale

There is nothing like snagging a great piece of clothing on SALE! Now double that and you know where to find me!  Dissh is an Australian brand that I happened on while binging Pinterest style ideas. I would describe their aesthetic as elevated minimalism. Luxurious knits, classic silhouettes and neutral tones make this brand a perfect go to for closet staples. I have linked some of my favorite pieces that are currently an additional 25% OFF. Grab them while you still can.. you know I already did! Sizing is a little bigger so I would size down. I am 5'4 and would order an XS for a true to size fit. Stay tuned for a style video on my IG @thenexthappening of what I will be dishing out from Dissh! Not sponsored and no affiliate links - just love a great brand on sale!

Fall Finds at Grand Canal Shoppes

inside The Venetian Resort Las Vegas

It's no secret that when you live in Vegas, you pretty much go from summer straight into winter with so little as a yellow leaf or cool breeze. That doesn’t mean that we locals don’t try and find ways to bring on all those ‘fall feels’! We order our pumpkin spice lattes and cozy up to our Netflix fireplaces, but the one thing you really just can’t fake is fall weather. As I’m writing this post, it’s pretty much the end of September and we are STILL in the 90’s! I mean come on Vegas – give a girl a break here. The one silver lining all Vegas locals hold on to almost every year, without fail, is that sudden fall chill comes October 31st!

So with that lovely thought in mind, I’m hitting Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian Resort Las Vegas to search for some fall finds. I’m going with the theme of slightly unconventional - like Vegas’ fall – which means I get to share some places you might overlook in your autumn shopping. Starting with a trip to… drumroll... Tommy Bahama!

Ok, I know the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Tommy Bahama is probably more palm trees, sandy beaches and not cold days and fall feels BUT two things Tommy Bahama most certainly does have: comfort and class! The brand has been around for years and while it’s been a staple for good ol’ Mom and Dad, I think our generation is missing out. Allow me to enlighten you on all that Tommy Bahama has to offer.

Speaking of Mom, of course I brought her along – so get ready for some ‘like mother like daughter’ moments. The staff at Tommy Bahama at The Shoppes were so helpful and pulled a few of their fall favorites for us to try!

One of mine and Mom’s favorites was actually two different pieces but in the same fabric – a classic V-neck sweater – the Bonita Sequin Ottoman V-Neck Sweater - and a sweater top – the Bonita Ottoman Short-Sleeve Sweater. Now going back to what I said before, comfort and class, these styles for sure had both. The material was buttery soft and had a relaxed fit that made it easy to wear. The sweaters also had a great ribbing for texture and some subtle sequins for that classic style every girl wants in her wardrobe. Plus, it’s the perfect setup; you buy the sweater for you and the sweater top for Mom! Win, win!

Next up was a bold print in a classic fall color – a crocodile print olive green jacket – the Two Palms Crocotile Linen Jacket. Again, soft fabric and a classic style. Mom liked it best as a jacket and I was really feeling it as a shirt. If you are loving this funky print for fall – Tommy Bahama has matching pants.

Now I have a cold weather tip you have to try and that I highly recommend at Tommy Bahama – shop in the Men’s section! Comfy fabrics, oversized fits, classic styles... it’s all there.

I grabbed a long sleeve, collared shirt in a yummy burgundy that would go perfect with some skinny jeans and knee-high boots. Then I threw on one of their cozy shirt jackets – the Albany Peak Shirt Jacket - and fell in love with the color and funky lining. I’m telling you, if you haven’t stolen a few styles from the men, you are missing out – so go do it! Now what have we learned? If nothing else – Tommy Bahama equals comfort and class.

On to the next store and another item some haven’t tried – hats! Now if you know me, you know this; I am a firm believer that every person should be a hat person. Furthermore, there is no better time to become a hat person than come fall. I’ll give you two practical selling points; One: hats keep heat in. Two: hats cover dirty hair. I know I can’t be the only one who could use a little bit more heat in the autumn air and less stress dealing with dirty hair... right? Right!

So, I stopped into Chapel Hats at Grand Canal Shoppes for some much needed hat hunting. Ok, don’t be overwhelmed... they have A LOT of hats. The good news for you is they also have an amazing staff! Ask for suggestions and just keep trying on different styles, with their crazy big selection you will for sure find the hat for you.

If you are a hat lover like me, I started with something bold – a red boater – the Arlynn. I love nothing more than a bright red paired with a white and black outfit... think of it as your favorite red lipstick finishing off a look! Maybe too much for some? If you need to ease into it, go for a classic black wide brim fedora. You can’t go wrong with black, it goes with everything and the fedora style is for sure my go-to! Two styles Chapel Hats recommends most is the Ryder and the Memphis. They are so popular they were sold out at the store but you can always hop onto their website - www.chapelhats.com

Of course, I had to toss on a few more for good measure and even got Mom – a hat novice – into one! For me, hats are a fall MUST. They are the ultimate accessory to ‘top off’ a look and such a fun way to show off your personal style. Not to mention when you shop at Chapel Hats, your new hat comes home in a great box!

With that, my fall shopping experience at The Shoppes comes to a close! I hope you had a few fall feels reading this and it rustled up a bit of inspiration to try something new this season. One thing it did for me was this.. I am SO excited for some Vegas fall weather!

Summer Date Night At Grand Canal Shoppes

at The Venetian Resort – From the Dress to Dinner!

The “date night” is OFFICIALLY BACK! No more are the nights of Netflix and chill - okay maybe a few more of those nights; but for this girl who loves herself a social outing, this moment could not have come soon enough! I have missed so much about this incredible city, but mostly the chance to get out on the town and make some memories!

With that being said, what does this 2021 post-covidish Vegas date night even look like? I have so many questions – Do I remember how to eat in public? What happens if I trip in my heels? Where did I put all of my bras? All valid questions after basically a year on house arrest. Well my friends, I am here for you! I have taken the first steps out into the unknown to answer these queries (and no, you won’t trip). We decided the best way to spend our first date night out was to visit Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort. So come with me on this summer date night adventure – from the dress to dinner, I will give you all the know-how needed to make that next night out on the town one to remember.

First things first, what the heck do you wear?! I mean, athleisure has become a second skin at this point and although this trend is 99% of the time totally appropriate for the occasion, I think for the night we shed that skin and slip into something a bit more exciting. For this, I recommend a shop that gives you everything you need to stun with the convenience and ease of it all being in one place (plus an equipped staff qualified to keep you on track) – Tory Burch at Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort.

Their current collection gives me all the feels! I don’t know if it was finally being able to try something on in the store or seeing a piece in real life and not through a computer screen, but let me tell you, it was good! I walked through and picked out three favorites and let a member of their staff do the rest – with my only direction being “think summer date night.” This was bold seeing as I RARELY like anything someone picks out for me but oh, they did not disappoint! My absolute favorite full look had to be the Ruffle Neck Dress in the color Wood Rose, the Cleo Macrame Woven Mini Bag in Yuca and their best-selling Double T Sport Slides in Dulce De Leche and Gold. It was summer date night perfection! Surrounded by these macrame bags, raffia, rope heels, and luxurious fabrics and prints, I could have stayed forever... Alas, a girl has got to eat and her date was getting impatient.

So once the perfect outfit was selected,  we weaved our way through The Shoppes, and headed over the river and through the woods…  I mean through the square to our dinner date spot – Smith & Wollensky. If you don’t know Smith & Wollensky, they have a pretty large cult following and started their stint in Vegas a little way down the strip from where they sit now. When they closed their original location, they vowed to come back to our city and ended up putting down roots in Grand Canal Shoppes three years later!

Now, don’t let the entrance fool you... because it fooled me! From the front you can see a little bar area and some smaller tables – nothing crazy – the place looks pretty small. Lucky for us, the magic happens upstairs. Down the hall and into an elevator, you feel like a “somebody” as they send you up to the second floor to what opens up into the quintessential steakhouse; low lighting, cozy booths, a wine wall and a steer head or two. What you don’t normally see is a canal filled with gondolas and men and women in those cute straw hats and striped shirts that pass by as you dine. Needless to say, this view set a one-of-a-kind scene!

We started the dinner with cocktails; a dirty martini for Jordan and an Elderflower gin and tonic for me. My drink was a gin and tonic with a twist – literally - a twist of lemon rind, lemon thyme syrup, and elderflower tonic. Jordan’s dirty martini was so good I decided to start ordering them at bars – extra dirty, blue cheese olives, shaken not stirred. Did I mention they mix it up at your table and leave the chilled shaker for you to fill your glass at your leisure?

We nibbled on a dinner roll – ridiculously delicious and I loved how they gave you dishes of Himalayan pink salt and butter to dress your roll how you like it! I want to get some jars like this for my home now. We then ordered their Wollensky Salad to share and the Dijon vinaigrette dressing was AMAZING – I am for sure looking up the recipe! We decided to take a look at the wine list and noticed the great price on Duckhorn by the glass... so you know we had to indulge. If you haven’t tried this wine – highly recommend!

As this was our first time at Smith and Wollensky, we wanted to order two different dishes  to try a bit of the menu but when our server described the Snake River Farms Swinging Tomahawk, we just couldn’t resist. It’s a more expensive choice but it easily fed us two – with leftovers – plus you get dinner and a show! They cart the hanging steak out to your table and begin to char the meat with a blowtorch - yes, a blowtorch at the table. The smell alone gets your mouth watering and when you taste it… out of this world! Crispy, juicy and oh so delicious.

The dish comes with potatoes, which Jordan had to know how to recreate -  they were full of flavor! The secret to these spuds… a blow torch and dripping steak fat – I guess this means we have to come back. For a side, we ordered the truffled mac and cheese because you have to order anything and everything that has truffle in the name, it’s a basic rule of food engagement. This. Was. Beyond. Incredible. Enough said, order it! When we filled ourselves to the brim, our server packed our leftovers in a green bag with nothing but “lucky puppy” across the front.

Then came desert, two espresso martinis and the world’s largest chocolate cake slice. I’ll start with the martinis and then get into the cake layers. If you have been to San Francisco and had an Irish Coffee from the Buena Vista, then you will understand the goodness and magic of these espresso martinis. Jordan and I swear the secret is in the Irish cream – it almost gives it an amaretto flavor that’s so light and refreshing. I would say one of the best espresso martinis I have ever had... and I’ve had a few. Now onto the cake, don’t worry I didn’t forget. The Gigantic Chocolate Cake is a ten-layer chocolate cake made up of chocolate layer cake, chocolate mousse, ganache and is garnished with fruit, whipped cream, and topped with a cookie steer. If you need a mental picture, just think of the movie Matilda, when Brucie had to eat that giant chocolate cake (pretty much spot on). Again, we could not finish and to our delight the server brought out another green bag... larger than the first, that too said “lucky dog.” I mean come on, so GOOD!

With that, dinner was done and our night was coming to a close. We slowly made our way back through The Shoppes and to our car to head home. As I sit back on my couch... and write this post, Jordan and I reminisce on the past evening -  both in agreement, it was a night to remember!

Skirt + Boots = Current Favorite Style Combo

Hey Kids!

Still loving all this Fall weather but I know in a few weeks when the temperature drops, my fingers and toes will be freezing and I'll be bundled from head to toe in layers // which really, not even complaining! But, before that hits and we are still in these "living in the 70's" days, I am going to be rocking this classic combination hard. The Fall go to style I'm talking about, the skirt and boot combo. There just really isn't anything cuter than a little skirt with a big bundled sweater and some jaw dropping, thigh high boots..Am I right or am I right?!

3 Fall Styles - Hair to Toe // Look Number 1: Globe Trotting, To Infinity & Beyond

Fall has finally caught up with the desert! There's a chill in the air that just makes you want to put on a bunch of layers and eat anything pumpkin flavored! Just me? Really though, this season always has me feeling all warm and fuzzy and the best part... all the fall clothes! Tall boots, big jackets, chunky knits, and everything in the rich tones of autumn.

So to really get Fall started, I come to you with a collaboration. But first, a question.. What's better than three fall outfits? Three fall hairstyles to go with them of course! To do this I teamed up with an amazing artist and new Vegas resident, Faye @hairbyfaye. She is the genius behind these three "new favorite" hairstyles and a flawless makeup look. Besides being from Canada and having a personality of gold, this babes' styles and makeup skills are out of this world! If you are in the Vegas area or if you just want some hair inspiration, give this girl a follow on Instagram or send her a DM, she's super welcoming and a great chat.

I HAD TO DO IT // THE NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE

Ok I know, I know..

Instagram and the rest of the fashion blogger universe at least is blowing up about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I'm sure your Insta-stories are exploding with hauls, try ons, what to buys, yada yada yada. Honestly, I love Nordstrom but I hate the mad dash. Things like Black Friday, the day before Christmas, and really any buying holiday in America, you will find me huddled in a ball in the corner rocking back and forth. Ok not really but probably in a coffee shop completely content being far, far away from all that chaos.

BEHIND THE INSTA-POST // IS THAT A SCARF?!

Hey people!

Another day here on the blog, another post, but the start of something new. I've decided to start a series here of basically a "behind the scenes" of some of my Instagram photos. They will be super short posts just giving more details on the outfits themselves. So things like how I style, what my inspiration was, and where the pieces come from and/or alternatives to make your own outfits! You have to be so brief on Instagram and most of the time I like to put a fun little quip or something silly as my caption and not some long shpeel of each piece and where I got it. If you want a super short way to get just the outfit details, go download and follow me on the liketoknow.it app, it gives you links to shop each piece! If you want to know a little more behind the scenes of how it all came together or are just bored on a Monday, read on!

I get that accomplished feeling when I find a piece and can snag it for less than asking // some major accomplishments going on over here  .. Anyways, if you know what I'm saying than you're welcome for what I am about to tell you...

STYLING THE BAKER BOY HAT // VOLUME I - HELLO EVERYDAY

Brixton Baker Boy Hat

This hat is seriously everywhere // The Baker Boy is taking over and I'm not complaining. This is one of those hats that is subtle enough for someone who doesn't normally go for hats but also packs a punch. All you have to do is put it on and your outfit is immediately elevated. Easy, functional, and a statement. Nothing better than that!

So to show my appreciation for the versatility and ease of the baker boy, I am going to style this hat a few different ways to hopefully get you on the baker boy bandwagon!

First up, an outfit for daily deeds and casual nights out.

A FLOWING SET AND A VALLEY VIEW // ULTIMATE TRAVEL OUTFIT

One of my favorite trends that has popped up in recent years is the "matching set" and one of my favorite brands has dedicated an entire section of their site to this super easy and functional fashion statement; Of course I am talking about Free People.

DRESSING FOR THE OCCASION+S

I'm guilty...

Ok I think every girl is.. but of what you ask? The "One-Time Wear". Yes, the wonderful and terrible One-Time Wear // O.T.W. // More often than not this beast is born from the invite of a one-time event. For example, a girlfriends wedding or a business holiday party or your big birthday. You know, events that you want to feel special for and to feel special you want to wear something special. So you go out and buy a lavish, navy blue snakeskin dress with kimono sleeves, high leg slit, and a deep cut v-neck and you slay that party.... then only to shove that dress in the back corner of your closet, never to be seen or heard from again; Because lets be honest, who wants to be seen wearing the same outfit over again to another one-time event. It's a vicious cycle.
